Reading Material ... The "Thud" Principle

By Dave Harris: How do umpires really judge plays? What is timing? How does sound help with timing behind the plate? How does sound help evaluate plays on the bases? Read this article and see how the author reviews this ideas ...

thud

Good tip. Sometimes when we delay we hear the comment that "Blue" can't make up its mind. I also like the tip of reading the label on the catcher's glove before making a call.

Thud

I have had the tendancy to be too quick to make a call, only to watch the 2nd baseman drop the ball on a force play. Embarrasing to say the least. This is a good mechanic to slow me down.
